Okay, enough with the emails. Yes, there was a massive security hole in Apple’s iPhone and YES it pretty much gave anyone willing complete access to your phone remotely. Yes, its been known about for nearly two months and yes the media just picked up on it this past week which is why you are no reading this. I’m happy to tell you that if you already don’t know you can now patch your phone to shut the security leak.
WASHINGTON(AFP) — Apple released a free software update on Friday that eliminates a security vulnerability in its hot-selling iPhone.
The security flaw, which involved SMS messaging, was revealed by a pair of researchers on Thursday at the Black Hat computer security conference in Las Vegas.
“This morning, less than 24 hours after the demonstration of this exploit, we’ve issued a free software update that eliminates the vulnerability from the iPhone,” Tom Neumayr, an Apple spokesman, told AFP. [1]
Wow, that’s some seriously security hole right? Consider this.. maybe it wasn’t a security hole at all but a hole that was supposed to exist so you could be spied on. Think about it, this security hole was the perfect remote access and if someone (your Government, your Parents, whomever) really wanted to listen in on your conversations, view your information, what better way to to do it, right? *creepy music*
So how do I updated my phone?
It’s simple, plug it in and sync it with iTunes, and then hit your “CHECK FOR UPDATE” button, accept the agreement, and Enjoy!
